This article is for converting a project into a recipe and also for how to copy a project into a duplicate project.
Watch the following video to learn about how to convert a project into a recipe. This is also a great way to duplicate (copy) a project (see the last section below). If you don't need to turn your project into a recipe and want to have key existing project data (assignments, dates, progress) as a duplicate project, go to the article on how to duplicate a project.
How-To Video
How to create a recipe from a project
You can turn a project into a recipe. This will process will bring over everything (files, dependencies, etc.) with the exception of dates and people assignments since those are not recipe attributes. The steps are as follows:
- You need to have the Project Admin permissions.
- Go to the project's configuration page by either clicking the pencil to the right of the project name on the project list page or in an open project.
- In the Project Configuration page, click on the chef hat icon in the action bar buttons.
- Click on the Create Recipe button.
- Give your recipe a name and submit.
- This will create a copy of the project as a recipe, which you will find on the recipe list page.
Note, if your project has tasks with checklist, you will get a popup asking if you would like those checklist items to be included in the recipe.
How to duplicate a project using the same method (via a recipe)
Let's say that you want to copy or duplicate a project. You can use the above steps to do this. The only caveat is that this process will not copy over the task dates and people assignments. The steps are as follows:
- Start with following the steps 1 through 6 above.
- Next, create a project from the new recipe created.
- That's it!
