This article explains how the Billing Rates and Internal Rates permissions work for the Project Report Budget tab. The visibility permissions were designed for consulting firms and professional services organizations or departments that include end-client team members to their projects and want to control who gets to see or not see budget hourly rates.

SCENARIO — Let's say as a consulting company you have a business requirement to include your end-client management team members to be workspace admins and/or project admins in your organization's workspaces.
PROBLEM — You don't want a client person to see either your Billing Rates or Internal Rates on the Project Report page when these client people are assigned the Workspace Admin, Executive Viewer, or the Project Admin permission.
SOLUTION — Pie added the "Billing Rates" and "Internal Rates" permission checkboxes for assigning your users at the workspace level. By default, these are not turned on (not checked). Anyone without this checked means they will not see your billing or internal rates in the member profiles or in the project budget report pages.
The following shows where the Project Report Budget page is located. Each Budget tab has a Visibility Permission button. Click this to open up a quick reference.
Who is allowed to set the Billing Rates or Internal Rates permissions?
- The Organization Admin person
- The Workspace Admin person who also has the Billing Rates and/or Internal Rates boxes checked can also check it for other people under that same workspace. The Organization Admin person would need to assign the Billing Rates or Internal Rates to at least one Workspace Admin before that Workspace Admin person can then assign this permission to others.
- A member can be assigned to either the Billing Rates or Internal Rates and see internal rates data in projects under this workspace if they are also assigned to either the Workspace Admin, Executive Viewer, or assigned to the Project Admin permission at the project level.

- Learn more about the Organization Admin permission.
For example,
Sasha is the Organization Admin. Sasha creates a workspace called IT Services and then assign internal manager William as a Workspace Admin and also assigns him with both the Billing Rates and Internal Rates permissions. Now, let's say Cate is an internal manager too and needs to see the one or both of these rate permissions. Either Sasha or William can assign Cate to the workspaces rate checkboxes.
How to give Rates visibility permissions?
- As the Organization Admin or the Workspace Admin with Rates permission, go to the workspace member's bar assignment view in the workspace or within a project assignment page.
- Click the checkbox for either the Billing Rates or the Internal Rates (or both) for your member.
The following sections show how permissions works on the different tabs in the Project Reports Budget page:
SET UP RATES tab permissions
- Team Members — who have the Billing Rates or Internal Rates workspace assignment checkbox checked, but do not have Project Admin, Workspace Admin, or Executive Viewer workspace checkboxes checked will not see rates, so those columns are hidden.
- For the following three permissions, if the user also has the Billing Rates or Internal Rates workspace permission checked on, they can see the Billing Rates or Internal Rates columns, otherwise they are hidden.
- Project Admin (for only that project)
- Workspace Admin (for any projects in the workspace)
- Executive Viewer (for any projects in the workspace)
MEMBERS tab permissions
- Team Members — Billings and Internal columns for Team Members are hidden assuming they are not also a Project Admin, Workspace Admin, or Executive view with the one of the Rates checkboxes checked.
- For the following three permissions, if the user also has the any of the Rates workspace permission checked, they can see the Rates columns, otherwise they are hidden.
- Project Admin (for only that project)
- Workspace Admin (for any projects in the workspace)
- Executive Viewer (for any projects in the workspace)
DAILY TIME tab permissions
Everyone can see all content.
Burn-Up Chart tab permissions
- Team Members — No chart visibility
- For the following three permissions, if the user also has the either the Billing Rates or the Internal Rates workspace permission checked, they can see the chart, but if one of the rates is unchecked, they the chart lines corresponding to that rate will be hidden.
- Project Admin (for only that project)
- Workspace Admin (for any projects in the workspace)
- Executive Viewer (for any projects in the workspace)
SUMMARY tab permissions
- Team Members — Only the planned hours section is visible and the rest is hidden
- For the following three permissions, if the user also has the either the Billing Rates or the Internal Rates workspace permission checked, they can see the extra data, but if one of the rates is unchecked, that rate related data will be hidden.
- Project Admin (for only that project)
- Workspace Admin (for any projects in the workspace)
- Executive Viewer (for any projects in the workspace)
