This article is about adding users, adding team members.
You can add a person, add a team member, or add people to your Pie account in multiple ways. The following are different areas where you can assign people to your tasks, projects, or workspaces.
- Add person to a workspace
- Add person to the project
- Add person to a project task
- Add person to a personal task
- Add person to account people page
- Add admin to a recipe
- Add admin to organization
Each of these locations work mostly the same way. All of the above with the exception of the Account view, will have a people icon to click. Click this icon to get to the people view. You will see a search field. Enter the user's name or email address. If the name comes up with "(external)" to the right, that means they are a Pie user, but not yet in your account. If nothing comes up, it may mean they are not yet a pie user. In this case, just enter their email address and submit. The system will send them an invite. When they join they will get their own Pie account, plus see what you are sharing with them. The Settings/People page has a more robust approach where you can assign a new person to more than one workspace at a time on the same page.
Add person to a workspace
As a Workspace Admin, you can add new members to your workspace.
- Go to your avatar, click and select Workspace in the dropdown.
- Expand the organization bar to show its workspaces.
- Hover over the workspace bar and click the people icon in the button set to the right end of the bar to open the assignment view.
- In the search field, enter the person's name or email to invite.
- In the person's profile, you can specify certain workspace permissions.
- Click Create (or Update).
Add person to a project
As a Project Admin, you can add a new member to your project. Watch the following video about adding people to a project and to learn about project permissions.
- Open a project's configuration page.
- Click the people icon.
- In the search field, enter their name. If found, select their email and hit enter. If the name is not found, enter their email and submit. This will send them an invite to join and see your project.
- Depending on your permission status, you might be able to give this user certain project permissions.
- Click Create.
NOTE: Pie will automatically send an email notification to the person you add to your project. (This assumes the member didn't turn off email notifications in their personal profile page.)
Add person to a project task
As a task owner, you can add a person to your task.
- Open a project task and click the people icon.
- In the search field, enter their name. If found, select their email and hit enter. If the name is not found, enter their email and submit.
- This will send them an invite to join and see your task.
- Depending on your permission status, you might be able to give this user certain permissions.
- Click Create.
- When you assign the member to the task, you get an option to immediately send them an email notifying them they have been assigned to this task. You can use this option only immediately after you create the task. Once you refresh the page or navigate away and come back, that option is no longer there by design.
NOTE: If adding a person to a task before you added that person to the project level, then Pie will automatically add that person to the project and the task at the same time. In this scenario, Pie will also automatically send an email notification to this person saying they were added to the project. (This assumes the member didn't turn off email notifications in their personal profile page.)
Add person to a personal task
As a task owner, you can add a person to your task.
- Go to the On My Plate page.
- Open (or create) a personal task and click the people icon.
- In the search field, enter their name. If the name is not found, enter their email and submit.
- This will send them an invite to join and see your task on their On My Plate page (when it's dated for this week).
- Click Create.
Add person to your account People page
As the account owner, you can add new members to your workspaces.
- Go to your avatar, click and select People in the dropdown.
- In the search field, enter the person's name or email to invite.
- In the person's profile, you can assign the user to a workspace and specify certain permissions.
- To add to more than one workspace, click the add extra button to add another workspace if needed.
- Click Create.
Add admin to recipe
As a Recipe Admin, you can add a new member to your recipe with the same admin permissions.
- Open a recipe's configuration page.
- Click the people icon.
- In the search field, enter their name. If the name is not found, enter their email and submit. This will send them an invite to join and see your project.
- Depending on your permission status, you might be able to give this user certain permissions.
- Click Create.
NOTE: Pie will automatically send an email notification to the person you add to your recipe.
Add the superpower Organization Admin to an organization
As an Organization Admin, you can add another person to your organization as an Organization Adm. If you want to add team members to your organization as project team members, you must add them at the workspace level, not at the organization level. Go back up to the add person to the workspace second above.
- Go to your avatar, click and select Workspace in the dropdown.
- Hover over the organization bar and click the people icon in the button set to the right end of the bar to open the assignment view.
- You should get a popup warning you that anyone you add here will have full admin power.
- In the search field, enter the person's name or email to invite.
- Click Create (or Update).
