THIS ARTICLE IS ONLY FOR LEGACY PIE CSV IMPORTS.
This import tool is to help our Pie customers migrate their projects from the Legacy Pie application (before 2019) to the new Pie application (launched in 2019).
What will import from my Legacy Pie projects?
- Slices
- Process Boxes
- Tasks
- Subtasks (1 level)
- Task descriptions
- Assignments, but to make this work see the preparation section below.
- Dependencies
- Durations
- Start and due dates
- NOTE: Importing to the Recipe List page will skip dates and people assignments.
What will NOT import from my Legacy Pie projects?
- Files will not import
- Time tracking entries will not import
- Data fields and their data will not import
- Layers of a multi-layer project will import, but will be turned into separate projects.
Importing into New Pie application
- Before importing, add your team members in the New Pie that will be listed as assigned members in the importing project. If you're only importing Pie Template layers, no need to add members. Make sure you add them to the workspace that will be used to assign the projects to in step #5 below. When adding them to the workspace, ensure the spelling of the first and last name are exactly the same as they are in the CSV file. You can skip this step and the import should ignore the assigned names.
- Log into your New Pie account.
- Go to your Project List page for importing a project or the Recipe List page for importing a Layer Template, which is now called a "Recipe".
- Click the blue kabab (dot dot dot) button to the fart right of the Create Project button.
- Select the "Import CSV Project File..." option.
- Search for the workspace where you would like your project to land.
- Click Import File button.
- Find your CSV project file in your local computer directory and select it.
- The project will import. If there are any warnings, it will display in the popup messages (which you can download as a report).
- One project with one layer import: The CSV file import will create a new project in your workspace. To make it easier to find, the import tool will concatenate "(Imported)" to the right of the project name. You can then go to this project's configuration page and edit the name.
- One project with multiple layers import: The CSV file will have a layer column that will note the different layer names. When imported, each layer in this file will turn into a separate project in the New Pie app.
- Portfolio of projects download: The CSV file will have different project names in the project name column. When importing, each of these projects will turn into a separate pie project in the New Pie. If any of these projects in the CSV has more than one layer, those will also be split up into separate projects in the New Pie as noted in step #10 above.
NOTE: The New Pie doesn't have the same in-project layering structure, but you can reconnect your projects into an overall project grouping using tags if needed. Soon will will have a stacking feature similar to programs in the Legacy Pie.
