This article is how to make a copy (duplicate) of a project. This duplicate features can also be used to baseline or make a snapshot of a planned project for future timeline comparisons. If you want to turn a project into a recipe, see the Create recipe from existing project help article.
How to duplicate your project
- Go to the project's configuration page. From the Project List page, click the pencil icon to the left of the project pie. From within the opened project, click the pencil icon in the upper right of the page to the right of the project name.
- In the project's configuration page, click the duplicate project icon in the button menu bar (next to last button). See image below.
- It will now ask you to rename the project
- There are seven items that you can choose to include (check) or not include (un-check) in the duplicate project (see image below).
- If you need to change it's workspace location, do so before you click the duplicate button. Also, if you want to send this to archive for use as a reference project, you can change it's state to Archive (see note below). The change buttons are located just under the buttons menu bar.
- Click the green DUPLICATE button. Your duplicated project will be ready and found either in your workspace list of projects or in a different location if you made changes as per step number 5 above.
Duplicating a project as a baseline of an active project
To compare a planned project timeline with future changes in the project's timeline during execution, you can set a up "snapshot" of your planned project as follows:
- Plan your project with all of the dates and assignments. If you use dependencies between tasks, make sure to keep the dependencies set to "auto propagate" across the project. See dependencies help article for that feature.
- Once you are satisfied with your plan, you can turn off the "auto propagate" dependencies and then follow the steps above to make a duplicate project. Consider appending to this duplicate project's name the words "baseline" or "planning snapshot" along with the date, such as "ABC Project - Snapshot 8 June 2025"
- To avoid having your duplicate baseline project show up in your active project reports, you should consider archiving it as explained in step 5 above in the the how-to-duplicate steps.
